Franklin Covey

Franklin Covey is a firm that was formed in 1997 when Franklin Quest, maker of the Franklin Day Planner purchased the Covey Leadership Center which was created by Stephen Covey, author of The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People.

Franklin Quest evolved from leadership seminars held by Hyrum Smith in 1981. The company introduced the Franklin Day Planner in 1984, and suite of personal management software called ASCEND in 1991 before going public in 1992.

The company attempted to expand with a chain of several hundred stores around the nation in the early 2000s and offices around the globe. It has since re-consolidated around its core products and consulting business.

A scandal shook Utah when people learned that self-help guru Hyrum Smith had a affair. Hyrum Smith was briefly excommunicated from the LDS Church and re-entered the church and wrote about the experience in the work "Pain is Inevitable, Misery Optional."

Franklin Covey trades on the NYSE with the symbol FC.
