Utah County is a county of half million people on the Wasatch Front. The 2010 census counted 516,564 people in the area. The is a 40% growth since 368,540 in 2000. The 2015 population estimate is 575,205.
The majority of people live along the I15 corridor between Utah Lake and the steep Wasatch Mountains which is dominated by the iconic escarpment of Mount Timpanogos.
The valley centered on Utah Lake is often called Utah Valley and sometimes as Happy Valley. Literature about the valley often notes that 88% of the populate is LDS and 89.4% White. 10% is a rapidly growing Hispanic population.
Utah County is named for Utah State which in turn is named after the Ute Indian Tribe that lived along the Wasatch front before being displaced by the pioneers.
The county seat is Provo which is home to Brigham Young University. Utah County is also home to Utah Valley University in Orem.
