Fandango
Fandango is not a local site. But it is an interesting example of a national site working with local businesses. Fandango.com, if you are not familiar with the site, is about Movies. The site gives show times, movies reviews and lets people purchase movie tickets online. They charge a service on top of the ticket price for the service.
This is a great service for the popular new releases. Buying a ticket online guarantees you a seat. It sure beats showing up two hours early to buy a ticket, or having to change evening plans because the show was sold out.
The site is large. Fandango.com list movies at over 15,000 theaters in the US and Canada. Fandango ranks high among the most popular sites on the net. They are one of the few places providing reliable information on movies.
On the downside, Fandango gives preference to the large theatre chains such as represent more than 15,000 screens across the U.S. and Canada and include Carmike Cinemas, Century Theatres, Cinemark Theatres, Edwards Theatres, Loews Cineplex Entertainment, Regal Cinemas and United Artists (UA) Theatres. I've found a few independent theaters in the Fandango listings. Unfortunately, the site does not give information on what independent theaters must to add their listings.
