American Fork, Utah
American Fork City
American Fork City is a town on the American Fork River along the Northeastern shore of Utah Lake in Utah County. LDS pioneers first moved into the area in 1850 and incorporated the the area as Lake Town in 1852. To avoid confusion with Salt Lake City the town founders renamed town to American Fork in 1860.
The town had grown to a population of 28,326 by 2015.
American Fork River
The American Fork River is a scenic river that originates in Mineral Basin South of Snowbird and Alta Ski Areas. It flows between the Lone Peak Wilderness and Mount Timpanogos.
The river enters Utah Valley between Highland and Cedar Hills then runs through the center of American Fork before flowing into Utah Lake.
Alpine Loop
State Route 92, known locally as The Alpine Loop, stands out as one of the most scenic drives of the Wasatch Mountains. Starting in American Fork, the loop enters American Fork Canyon. It provides access to Timpanogos Cave National Monument. The road follows the South Fork providing access to the Mount Timpanogos Trail.
Climbing over an alpine pass, the road provides access to the Timpaneke Trail. The loop then follows the North Fork of the Provo River past Sundance Resort and into Provo Canyon where the loop merges onto highway 189.
